Before leaving, it is important to deal separately with electricity and home internet contracts: they do not end with the tenancy or a change of address. First collect the details for each contract, check the cancellation terms and how to send notice. Then record the meter reading, notify the electricity provider and request confirmation. For internet, check whether the service can be moved or how to terminate the contract in your situation. Keep copies of messages, proof of receipt and final bills. Abmeldung may be needed as evidence of departure, but it is best to close important contracts yourself. This scenario helps you organise the steps calmly without mixing them with handing over the flat and other pre-departure tasks. Check the terms of each specific contract and do not rely on the general reason for leaving.
