Plan overview
Check your goal, profession, and type of education, then choose Anabin, ZAB, or an Anerkennung procedure through the competent authority.
What to do step by step
- 1
Define your goal and profession
Decide what you need your degree for and find the German name of the profession you plan to work in.
- 2
Check whether the profession is regulated
Check whether your chosen profession requires a separate recognition procedure through the competent authority.
- 3
Check the university and qualification
If you have a university degree and a non-regulated profession, check information on the university and degree in Anabin.
- 4
Choose a suitable validation route
Decide whether Anabin information is enough, a ZAB evaluation is needed, or you should prepare Anerkennung for a specific profession.
- 5
Check documents before applying
Check the chosen authority’s requirements and prepare documents only using the current list for your profession and federal state.
- 6
Check the route for vocational education separately
If you have college, technical school, or another vocational qualification, look for the German reference profession and competent authority.
Important notes
- A regulated profession requires a separate recognition route.
- A ZAB evaluation does not replace professional recognition.
